In my previous post, I have discussed the concept of keystone habits – what they are and why you should definitely adopt some. If you haven’t read it, read it as an intro here.
Today I want to look into them in more detail. Especially, I want to introduce you to My TOP 5 keystone habits, that I practice in these categories of life:
- PERSONAL
- PHYSICAL
- BUSINESS
- FAMILY
- FUN
As a side note to this – why these categories specifically? Because these are my top categories, which for me,build a foundation of a healthy, wealthy and a happy – balanced – lifestyle. And that is the main goal of my time management strategy – to be satisfied holistically.
Now, let’s look at them one by one.
Personal – Willpower & Discipline
According to Duhigg, the author of the book“The Power of Habits,” many studies have shown that “willpower is the most important keystone habit for individuals and continued success.”
It is not the talent, but the effort, consistency and personal discipline that get results. So what better habit to cultivate than the habit of discipline.
I know many people have negative connotations around discipline and that’s why they do not even try to aspire to live a disciplined life. Yet many of these beliefs are based on misconceptions, which are not even true!
I wrote an entire blog post about 5 things that you would have never guessed about discipline, which aims to refute these misconceptions and clarify what discipline really is. You can read it here.
Also, if you are inspired to live a more disciplined life and reap the benefits thereof, then I can recommend my Discipline Training, which helps people like you to live a more disciplined and happy life. Get it here.
Physical – Physical self-care
Don’t judge the book by its cover? Really? Don’t we all?
Taking care of your physical appearance is not vanity. How we present ourselves physically is important for any kind of interaction, whether business or private.
But it goes beyond just that, when you take care of yourself, you also increase your confidence. This cascades down to how you show up in your work, interact with friends and family. Also, taking good care of yourself is strongly connected to various self care, which is proven to reduce stress, overwhelm and increase calmness.
That’s why having daily, weekly and monthly self care rituals is a must for me. Not only for how I look, but also for how I feel.
BUSINESS – Clear long term goal setting
Business work is usually busy. It comes as no surprise that planning your day ahead, keeping a clear and prioritized to-do list is not only useful but necessary to remain focused and productive.
But what if you took planning your day to a next level like I do, and set longer term goals. Having clarity over the long term vision, not only increases your success rate, it also helps you with visualization, makes you more focused, and productive. By being clear what you don’t want, you also avoid decision making fatigue and reduce anxiety, stress and overwhelm. Magic!
FAMILY – gratitude
A typical go-to family habit is having meals together. And I get it – it has SO many benefits. And it certainly is a keystone habit in my family and I am very strict about.
However, my special habit that I cultivate with my family is gratitude. Before some meals, we all hold hands and say thanks, for having food on our table, for all of us being together, for a beautiful day we had, for… million small things we can be grateful for…
Gratitude create instant feelings of positivity – you literally cannot be angry and grateful at the same time.
What is more, there is a saying: “if you are grateful for what you have, you will have more. If you are not- you will never have enough.” I strongly believe that being grateful sends a message to the universe and the universe reads it as follows: “This girl loves what I am giving to her, so I will keep it coming, I will give more of…..”
FUN – treating myself and my family (in moderation).
I do not want to be the richest man in the graveyard. While I am very strict with how I send money and even more obsessed with making them, I am also a person who likes to spend them.
In a regulated, conscious and responsible way. So I can enjoy both – indulging every once in a while and a the same time, not ruining my finances
See? Two birds with one stone, as I said.
I am pretty sure that by now, you understand what keystone habits are and how they work!
